What is ‘Buck Jumping’?
Named for the ceremony that took place at Rugby School at the end of Advent Term and just before Christmas until the 1950s. ‘Buck Jumping’ was a tradition where students would kneel down in pairs, along the ‘Long Passage’ between ‘Minor Big Dorm’ and ‘Piffer Row’. Other students then took the role of “bucks” leaping over the human hurdles whilst being assailed by fellow schoolmates.
